Composite Youth Development Model

Pre-Observation
The participants that I am coaching at the School are all male at the age of 8-10 years. This means according to the CYD Model (Lloyd 2015) that the age period of the participants are into their middle childhood years, the talent development stage of their lives are in their sampling years before they start reaching their recreational years or specialising years. In terms of their Psycho-social Development the participants should be exploring peer relationships, empowerment and increasing self-esteem, however alongside those characteristics their motivation for lifetime engagement in sports an physical activity should slowly start to increase. In terms of their physical development the participants should be focusing slightly away from fundamental movement skills and more into sport specific skills as they’re growing older and becoming more physically developed. Mobility, agility, speed, power and strength are a very big focus om what he participants should be starring to really grow on and improve as they’re getting oh dear. The hypertrophy of building muscles isn’t important at this age as they need to key components of their movements to become stronger before they can stat thinking about that. Also Endurance isn’t a key factor here as they don’t need to even start to think about that til they’re into adulthood.
Post-Observation
What we have observed and took from the observation of the participants is that their sport specific skills are brilliant and well above what is expected from them in terms of the CYD Model (Lloyd 2015). The participants need to build upon more self-esteem as some of them are not confident enough to really have a go and truly try to the est of their ability. This ties into the fact that most of the participants have very good peer relationships however after observing some of them, its clear to see that some of them are very shy and reluctant to communicate effectively with one an other, this is why some sessions can be implemented to improve on those vital skills.
LTAD Model

Pre-Observation
At the participants age of 8-10 years old, according to the LTAD Model (Balyi & Hamilton 2004) the participants that I am coaching should be moving out from the Fundamentals stage through to the learning to training whilst alongside developing physical literacy they should be also moving from Fundamental movement skills to Fundamental sports skills. This is meant to look like sessions such as small side games and focused drills on certain skills etc. play more then tactics in the sessions.
Post-Observation
What I saw after the observation of the participants in a P.E session with their coordinator wasn’t a true reflection to the LTAD Model (Balyi & Hamilton 2004). This is because I saw that the coach is trying to build physical and metal capability of his participants as he is implementing the training to compete section of the LTAD Model (Balyi & Hamilton 2004) which realistically is for 16 – 23 years for men. I found that the participants are training to compete as the school regularly enters them into tournaments weekly so they are always pushed to win those games. This is reflected in the sessions that they take part in, they’re in an active for life cycle when they should be really learning physical literacy and just starting to learn to train rather than learning to compete.
